Joana Moedas is a Portuguese visual artist based in Portugal and The Netherlands, whose work seeks to embody the nature of memory and perception. Working with mediums ranging between painting, video, and installation, their practice is driven by exploring the use of trauma as a medium. Often working with Archival Material such as personal and collective historical photographs, Moedas' employs the distorted logic of the psyche as a method of translating human experience back at itself. Themes of loss and longing, past and present, are imminent forces that push the work in an often necessarily anxious direction.
